McKesson Pharmaceutical Rolls Out New
Corporate Initiative with
Lasselle-Ramsay

Situation

McKesson Pharmaceutical, a business unit of the
$50 billion McKesson Corporation, is the leader in pharmaceutical
distribution and supply chain management. When McKesson Pharmaceutical
changed its internal measurement of profitability and added two
new metrics, they knew they would need superior training to make
this corporate initiative successful.
Challenge

As a large corporation with offices located across the United States,
McKesson Pharmaceutical needed a learning solution capable of training
managers and other non-hourly (exempt) employees remotely. The training
would also have to be flexible, so that busy professionals could
work it into their schedules.
Solution

When it came time to choose a vendor to design and develop training
for this new strategic initiative, McKesson Pharmaceutical felt
no need to consider anyone but Lasselle-Ramsay.
Lasselle-Ramsay assembled an instructional design team to work
in conjunction with finance and organizational staffers from McKesson.
Together, this development team opted to employ a blended approach
to learning, using pre- and post-assessments, recorded Centra events,
along with workshops to help managers and other exempt employees
understand how their individual performance affects the bottom line.
The Finance Matters Core Course was launched by the CFO in October
2002 with an online Centra conference announcing a training program
to support the new corporate initiative. Following the announcement
Lasselle-Ramsay held a two-day Finance Matters and Facilitations
Skills train-the-trainer session for financial and development staff.
Between October 2002 and the summer of 2003 over 1000 people were
trained across the United States. Employee satisfaction rates were
high: the average overall course rating was 4.7 on a 5-point scale.
Lasselle-Ramsay continues to work with McKesson Pharmaceutical
to develop follow-up courses that build on this initial success.
Workshops are being designed for each McKesson Pharmaceutical division
to further deepen an understanding of their role in the financial
success of the company.
